In order to complete its team, the Institute of Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences is looking for two graduate assistants in adult clinical psychology at 100%.

Your responsibilities:


You will write a doctoral thesis in the field of clinical psychology, psychotherapy, dynamic psychology, or attachment theory, on a topic chosen together with Professor Alessandro Talia.

The professor is particularly interested in researching communication in clinical settings, and works on discourse analysis and attachment theory, as well as psychoanalytic theory, linguistics, psychotherapy training, and the relationship between mental health services and social services.

The professor is the author of the Patient Attachment Coding System (PACS) and the Therapist Attunement Scales (TASc), measures that predict attachment status, mentalization, and epistemic trust in patients and therapists based on their in-therapy discourse.

Your findings will contribute to informing theory, research, and practice in psychotherapy and clinical psychology in Switzerland and internationally.

You will collect, analyze and manage data related to your research and that of the professor; you will present your results at international conferences and publish them in scientific journals.


In addition to the skills you will acquire during your project, you will receive assistance in developing a bespoke training plan to prepare for the next steps of your career.

You will also benefit from research links with the University of Cambridge and the University of Heidelberg, where you will be able to spend part of your contract as a visiting scholar if you wish.

You will gain experience working with academic and non-academic experts from different disciplines.

You will also be integrated into research teams at the Institute of Psychology at the University of Lausanne, and you will work in coordination with other doctoral students at the Institute of Psychology.


Your activities:

  • 50% of the regular working hours will be dedicated to a personal research : completion of a doctoral thesis in clinical psychology ;
  • 50% of the regular working hours will be dedicated to assisting with teaching (supervision of practical work, correction of exams).

Your qualifications:

In order to complete our team, we are looking for someone with the following skills:

  • Master of Science in Psychology or equivalent title ;
  • Strong motivation to write a doctoral thesis in the field of adult clinical psychology ;
  • Strong interest in research in the field of psychotherapy, psychodynamic theory, or attachment theory ;
  • Good knowledge of research methodology, and previous research or clinical experience is an asset ;
  • Organizational skills, collaborative spirit, ability to work independently ;
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail ;
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) and basic fluency in French (at least B2, oral and written).
