Responsibilities:

This consultancy is in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and Right to Development (TESPRDD), Rule of Law, Equality and Non Discrimination Branch (ROLENDB), Anti-Racial Discrimination Section (ARDS), in Geneva.

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent, the consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Facilitate the organization and implementation of the 2023 Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent.
  • Contribute in the elaboration of the programme of work, based on the results of the Training Need Assessment survey;
  • Liaise with relevant colleagues for the organization of training sessions, including uploading relevant material online;
  • Provide support in the finalization of all logístical arrangements and followup on any logístical issues arising during the implementation of the programme;
  • Provide support with the preparation and review of individual and group practical exercises;
  • Accompany and provide support to the fellows throughout the training programme including: welcoming the fellows on the first day of the Fellowship programme; checking attendance during training sessions; mentoring the fellows by providing them with substantive support on the content of the programme of work and assignments; responding to fellows' inquiries; informing them about possible changes in the schedule as well as preparing and sharing training material;
  • Addressing any issue that may arise during the programme in coordination with the Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme;
  • Undertake evaluations of training sessions and prepare the final evaluation report of the 2023 Fellowship programme;
  • Undertake any other assignment as deemed necessary by the Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme.
Qualifications/special skills
Education

Advanced University Degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, human rights, political science, international relations, social sciences or related fields.

Work experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, law or related area is required.
Experience working on issues related to the human rights of people of African descent is required.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
