This position is located in the English Interpretation Section, Interpretation Service, Division of Conference Management, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) at Geneva.

The incumbent reports to the Chief, English Interpretation Section.

Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Chief, Interpretation Service and the direct supervision of the Chief, English Interpretation Section, the Associate Interpreter will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Services up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies.
  • Provides interpretation, into English of speeches or statements given in French or Spanish.
  • Routinely covers sensitive meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education

Advanced degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in the relevant field from a university or an institution of equivalent status is required.

A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
At least two (2) years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations is required.

Languages

NOTE:
"Perfect command equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "excellent knowledge" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
