80 % The Zurich Center for Linguistics (LiZZ), Linguistic Research Infrastructure (LiRI), and the Department of Computational Linguistics (CL) are collaborative units dedicated to language research and technological advancement. With a diverse and international staff, we are seeking a dedicated IT Specialist to join our team and contribute to the operational efficiency of the provision of IT services. Your responsibilities As IT Specialist you will primarily provide first and second level IT support within UZH's decentralized IT model, resolving hardware and software issues, basic server maintenance, and contribute to the IT team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide routine IT support and troubleshooting
  • Oversee onboarding and IT instruction for new staff
  • Manage hardware and software updates, installations, and maintenance
  • Deliver 2nd level support and escalate complex problems where appropriate
  • Maintain internal and user facing documentation
  • Participate in team and departmental meetings
Your profile The person specification is as follows:

Qualifications, experience and knowledge
  • A relevant qualification in IT or substantial relevant work experience (essential)
  • Experience and general knowledge in the following areas: end user hardware, networking & security (essential)
  • Experience with Windows, MacOS and Linux client machines (essential)
  • Linux server maintenance, including GPU and file servers (desirable)
  • Linux server maintenance, including GPU and file servers (desirable)
  • A high level of knowledge and experience in at least one of the following core competencies: including client devices, networking protocols, standard software packages, Active Directory, printers, file storage systems (essential)
  • Knowledge of audio recording/studio equipment (desirable)
  • Prior experience working in a university or other research organization (desirable)

  • Excellent problem-solving skills including an ability to diagnose hardware and software faults (essential)
  • A flexible attitude to work, including the ability to take up new tasks quickly and when required without supervision (essential)
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) in both German and English, interpersonal and customer service skills (essential)

Language requirements
Communication is a key aspect of this role. Our working language is English, but effective spoken and written communication in German is also an essential requirement particularly for communication with central services of the University. Place of work Your future office workplace will be located on the UZH Campus Oerlikon at Andreasstrasse 15 in Zurich. You will also be required to attend other locations on the University campus as required. Start of employment This position is available from May 2024 onwards.
