The Position

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. This position is located in Preclinical Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (pCMC), a department within the Small Molecule Research organization in pRED Therapeutic Modalities (TMo), where we pave, in a diverse, ambitious and innovative environment, the path to bring drug candidates from early research into development.

We collaborate actively with our discovery and development partners' functions providing cutting-edge technologies and scientific excellence to transform molecules into future medicines. 

We are CMC experts and build our strength on a broad diversity of technical expertise in chemistry, formulation design, material science and analytical chemistry, delivering and innovating in the space of small molecules, peptides and nucleic acid-based medicines.

Job Mission

We offer an outstanding opportunity as a Scientific Leader in Drug Delivery and Preclinical Formulation Development. You will be part of a diverse team of enthusiastic pharmaceutical, chemical and analytical scientists and technical experts. 

Together, we generate scientific and technical knowledge to assess the developability of drug candidates, delivering and innovating in the space of classical synthetic molecules and peptides as well as nucleic acid-based medicines.

Your Impact 

The position will come with numerous accountabilities and responsibilities that enable the team to advance our portfolio through the successful development of viable molecules into medicines.

  • You provide matrix leadership and scientific expertise to a diverse team of specialists.  You and the team deliver sustainably and innovate on the portfolio through pharmaceutical profiling, phase-appropriate formulation development and supply for pre-clinical studies, and drug delivery excellence. You catalyze the transformation of viable molecules into medicines by staying abreast of portfolio deliverables and priorities.

  • You define the mid and long-term strategy and vision of the  Drug Delivery and Preclinical Formulation Development with the Leadership Team and translate this vision into actionable team goals. 

  • You connect and build trustful relationships and effective collaboration with internal discovery and technical development functions of Roche as well as with external partners.

  • You enhance scientific excellence by identifying relevant portfolio and industry trends and by maintaining contacts with academic partners in the area of formulation and drug delivery technologies. You translate and integrate this into the long-term scientific strategy for the team.  

Your Profile

  • You bring a Master's in Natural Sciences (chemistry, pharmacy, physics, biology, or related field) and preferably a PhD/Postdoc with more than 7 yrs of professional experience in a relevant industry.

  • You have a high level of technical expertise and proficiency in Drug Delivery, (Pre-) clinical Formulation development and Preformulation across diverse modalities and routes of administration. 

  • You bring experience as (matrix) lead of diverse teams.

  • You value creation and discovery, seizing opportunity for innovation and you seek diversity through thought, embracing risk and fostering scientific debate. 

  • You have a keen interest in continuously building a deep understanding of the organization and a personal network, and the ability to connect colleagues in multiple parts of the organization to reach shared goals
