Org. Setting and Reporting

This post is located in the External Engagement and Partnership Service (EEPS) of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in Geneva. The incumbent work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Service.




Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the External Relations (Partnerships) Officer will be responsible of the following duties: a) Develops and maintain strategic partnerships with current and new partners in order to ensure their sustained support to OHCHR by: - Mapping existing partners and partnership opportunities. - Designing an engagement strategy with current and future partners based on OHCHR's Resource Mobilization and Partnership Strategy, the Organisational management plan (OMP) 2024-2027 and the Operational Engagement Action Plan (OEAP) 2024-2027. - Preparing and negotiating partnership proposals and monitoring and reporting responding to ad hoc requests for information from partners. - Reviewing partnership needs and opportunities of the Office and aligning partner support to approved work and cost plans. - Engaging with existing partners to ensure they are updated on OHCHR's work, challenges and needs (including through annual consultations, thematic briefings, participation in events, etc.). b) Develops partnerships with new partners in order to achieve a broad partnership base for OHCHR by: - Engaging with/cultivating new partners to ensure they are familiar with OHCHR's priorities and needs (including through meetings, briefings, virtual/in situ visits, participation in events, etc.). c) Contributes to an office-wide consistent and coherent approach to partnership by: - Ensuring coherent messaging to partners at Geneva, New York and field levels. - In close cooperation with colleagues from key divisions, develop guidelines and build Office capacity on engagement with partners. - Advising field presences on OHCHR's partnership policies and approaches to ensure consistent messaging and approaches with partners. - Preparing various written outputs like briefing notes, strategic and position papers for senior management, as requested. d) Assists the Chief of EEPs in any other tasks related to the present terms of reference, as required. Supervision of new/junior staff may be also required.

Education

Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent degree), preferably in social and political science, public administration, business administration or management, economics, international relations or related fields. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

At least seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in human rights, humanitarian or development work, is required. Out of the seven years, at least five years of experience in partnership engagement, strategic partnerships is required. Experience in fundraising and developing partnerships with non-traditional partners is desirable. Experience in results-based management is desirable. Experience working within the UN common system or similar international organization is desirable.




Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.




Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.




Special Notice
