About Mepha and Teva in Switzerland
Mepha Pharma AG and Teva Pharma AG are together among the leading pharmaceutical companies in Switzerland. Since 2011, Mepha is part of the internationally active Teva Group, one of the world's leading suppliers of generics. Mepha and Teva are based in Basel and currently employ 174 people in total. The portfolio of Mepha and Teva comprises over 320 products, which are primarily used in primary care to treat a wide range of diseases. The range includes about 270 generics, over-the-counter medicines, dietary supplements, medical products, biosimilars, biologicals and other innovative medicines. The latter are used to treat diseases of the central nervous system, the respiratory tract and cancer. Mepha and Teva distribute their products via pharmacies, self-dispensing doctors, wholesalers, and hospitals. With around 23 million* packs, Mepha and Teva sold the most medicines in Switzerland in 2023.
We are currently looking for a HEAD MEDICAL AFFAIRS SWITZERLAND to provide overall medical leadership through alignment with the General Manager and Regional Medical VP, being a strategic partner to Commercial team, Market Access team and other key local and regional functions, and to ensure successful delivery of Teva’s new innovative product launches, Pivot to Growth strategy, external engagement, and execution of R&D programs.
With your broad medical affairs background, you will be able to lead by example and set standards for medical affairs being and enabling function and one of the key factors in our commercial story. A key aspect of our way of working is collaboration – we expect it within the medical affairs unit but also in working with other departments.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with strong, seasoned and highly experienced professionals who are the backbone of our company. Simultaneously, you will be setting up new processes and teams for future launches of innovative medicine as part of our Pivot to Growth strategy.
- An accomplished medical affairs leader, with a robust track record in leadership roles, strong business acumen and leadership capabilities, while being a results-driven professional with a strong collaborative ethos
- Able to develop a multi-year perspective and medical plan on the trajectory of the Swiss healthcare landscape involving early strategic planning of external engagement priorities/medical strategies
- A flexible problem solver known for thinking outside the box and generating creative, efficient solutions, and the ability to communicate precisely and diplomatically with internal parties as well as with authorities and other external parties
- Team leadership and people management experience, able to develop a high performing country medical team.
- A team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain professional relationships across all organizational levels
- Doctorate level degree (MD, PharmD or PhD in Biological Sciences or related field) with a preference for a Medical Doctor Degree
- Over 12-15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with extensive and diverse expertise gained in medical affairs functions, focusing on activities both in Switzerland and internationally
- Strong and proven track record for external engagement with experts and other external stakeholders
- Strong understanding of the innovative pharma business, with a proven track record of successful launches of innovative products in the Swiss market. Knowledge of Market Access is essential.
- Deep understanding of reimbursement and payer landscape in Switzerland. Strong knowledge of Swiss healthcare systems
- Proven experience managing medical affairs teams covering diverse therapeutic areas; experience in Neurology, Psychiatry, Gastroenterology (IBD), Immunology or Immuno-oncology areas would be preferred but not mandatory.
- Excellent communication skills in German and English and preferably good knowledge in French
