Work Hours/Schedule: The hours flex around the tutor's schedule. Each student (tutee) is allowed 7 hours of tutoring per course per semester. The amount of hours per week is dependent on the classes the tutor is available to tutor and the tutoring requests received by the SSC
Primary purpose of position: The primary purpose of being a peer tutor is to support and help fellow students and classmates succeed in their academics.
Duties and responsibilities: 1. Review content and teach skills such as note-taking, outlining, and test-taking. 2. As needed, communicate with the student's professor to determine suitable strategies, build on strengths, etc. 3. Support and encourage students (tutee)with honest and appropriate feedback.4. Identify specific problems that are hindering the tutee's progress in his or her coursework.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Knowledge of the course content you are tutoring, willingness to learn, patience with different learning styles, encouraging, relatable, consistent, and dependable
Education Requirements/Experience: Tutors may only tutor for classes they have completed at Geneva and received a grade of B or higher.
Additional Information:Tutoring hours are dependent on the demand for tutors in specific classes. Students are encouraged to express interest and apply for becoming a peer tutor, but must understand they will be assigned when a tutoring request is received for the classes the tutor specifies. Hours will vary and are not guaranteed between semesters. Child Protective Clearances are required for this position. If hired, please contact stephanie.landry@geneva.edu to complete these clearances.
