Job Description
Your responsibilities
To sustain and extend its discovery potential, the Large Hadron Collider, CERN's flagship accelerator, will undergo a major upgrade known as , for which new large-scale cryogenic infrastructure will be required. As a Mechanical Engineer in the Technology Department (TE), Cryogenics Group (CRG), Mechanical and Engineering support section (ME), you will join the work-package project team in charge of the design and construction of the new Cryogenic Distribution System for the HL-LHC project and of the upgrade of existing equipment. For this purpose, you will: • Design and develop advanced cryogenic equipment. • Perform thermo-mechanical analyses of cryogenic equipment, including the application of finite element analysis. • Conduct thermal-hydraulic analyses of cryogenic systems. • Verify the compliance of cryogenic equipment with applicable codes and standards. • Participate to technical reviews to validate the design developed by industrial suppliers. • Assist the engineer in charge in overseeing the suppliers' design activities. • Depending on project evolution, contribute to the follow-up of the production and the installation of the Cryogenic Distribution System.

Demonstrated experience in the thermal and mechanical design of systems and comprehensive knowledge of the associated methodologies Demonstrated experience with Finite Element analysis (ANSYS) Knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics Experience of engineering documentation and projects Working in multidisciplinary and international teams Fluent in EnglishEligibility criteria:
You are a national of a . You have a professional background in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
