The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.

Summary of Responsibilities : Responsible for all campus H.V.A.C. equipment. Equipment such as roof top units, split system units, apartment units, run around loops, window units.

Essential Responsibilities : (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC equipment throughout campus including rooftop package AC units, split system units, data center AC units, hot water boilers, hot water storage tanks, circulation pumps, residential size heating/cooling units, window A/C units, exhaust systems, venting and dampers. Knowledge of and ability to work with refrigerants and refrigeration systems. Maintains refrigerant inventories and required documentation. Ability to troubleshoot control systems associated with HVAC equipment. Perform soldering, welding, braising, ProPress and all associated components to complete work. Pipe fitting black pipe, copper, and plastic. Use of threading machine. Monitor and inspect equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety devices, and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely. Analyze problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems. Completes urgent and routine work requests. Completes monthly preventive maintenance requests. Perform snow removal activities, as required. Perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge of or ability to learn basic computer skills. Knowledge of or ability to learn Automated Logic control systems and their components. Supervision: Supervise student employees to include training, planning, assigning, and directing work, coaching, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job. Physical: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, bending, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

Qualifications:

Minimum: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED. Certification through the EPA to handle refrigerants. Experience: Basic HVAC skills with 1-3 years of experience. Skill/Abilities: Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Troubleshooting and repairing HVAC equipment or systems using the needed tools. Charging and recovery of refrigerants in HVAC and kitchen equipment. Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly and efficiently. Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications. Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Valid State driver’s license. Communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. The ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to respond to off-shift, weekend and/or holiday emergency calls. Ability to instruct others. Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work. Preferred: Education/Certification: Vocational, trade school, military training, or associate degree from an HVAC program at a technical school. Experience: 3-5 years of experience working in HVAC field. Skill/Abilities: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents. Knowledge of and ability to service kitchen equipment. Knowledge of electrical maintenance and commercial/institutional electrical systems. Welding and fabrication of metals including, piping, supports, ductwork, etc.
