Senior Packaging Engineer

Job Description

The Senior Packaging Engineer is a key role in ensuring the quality and compliance of the secondary packaging development for medical devices and combination products to regulations and requirements worldwide. The packaging solutions that we develop have to fulfill multiple requirements in terms of protecting the product inside, provide enough space for the labelling information and still fulfills sustainability goals regarding the lowest impact during storage and transport. Besides physical protection of the product it has to provide additional functionality regarding anti-counterfeiting measures to protect patients from falsified drugs.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Packaging Engineer leads packaging development activities for drug product and combination product projects. These may be development projects for new products as well as remediation activities for commercial products. The packaging development activities include:

  • Alignment with Regulatory Affairs (Labelling) on the space requirements for the labelling information in all relevant markets
  • Work with suppliers and CMOs on the materials and packaging processes
  • Gather input from Human Factors Engineering and Risk Management to address the respective needs
  • Lead shipping verification studies or write the respective shipping Verification Risk Assessment

Optimize the packaging on sustainability aspects to minimize use of material and space to reduce carbon footprint for


Qualifications

Education/Learning Experience/Work Experience

  • Required:  Min Bachelor of Science in a technical field, ideally chemical engineering or comparable  
  • Min 5 years work experience in a pharmaceutical/medical device company 
  • hands-on experience ie. Testing in laboratories, manufacturing sites 
  • Demonstrated practical use of GMP relevant regulatory Guidelines 
  • Experience of GMP Production and typical filling, packaging & labelling machines 
  • Knowledge of MDR, ISO 11607,  ASTM 4169, EMEA, FDA and other regulatory requirements 

Desired:  - Experience with electronic document management systems and tools

Skills/Knowledge/Languages

Required: 

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- proficiency in English required, additional languages are a plus
