While adaptation is an urgent priority, financing continues to fall short of actual needs. The public sector has played a critical role in mobilizing resources for climate action; however, its full potential remains untapped in advancing climate action through the social sectors—education, health, nutrition, protection, water and sanitation, most vital for building resilience among children and their communitiesThe Division of Private Fundraising Partnerships (PFP) and Public Partnerships Division (PPD) support the Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan (SCAP) and the upcoming Strategic Plan by enhancing strategic engagement with public sector partners and donors, focusing on sustaining and boosting climate income generation. The purpose of this consultancy assignment is to support the Chief of Climate Partnerships in PFP and the Deputy Director in PPD by coordinating with donor-facing desks in PPD and other divisions on climate engagement, fundraising, and influencing public sector donors for an enhanced public-private climate partnerships approach.How can you make a difference?Scope Of WorkUnder the leadership of the Chief of Climate Partnerships in PFP, with a dotted reporting line to the Deputy Director in PPD, the consultant will support the transition of the climate portfolio into the new PPD structure and coordinate with other divisions in the Partnerships Cone, PG CEED, and ROs to implement the strategies set out in the Global Climate Partnerships Plan (GCPP), including.Income: Support updates to PPD donor-facing desks and coordinate innovative public-private partnerships approaches to increase climate income generation more effectively. This includes providing capacity-strengthening opportunities for PPD donor facing-desks to understand the latest initiatives, value propositions, and financial instruments suitable for discussion with public partners.Influence: Support climate engagements with public sector partners at global intergovernmental platforms to advance the priority of child-centred climate action and finance.Insights: Generate insights into global climate finance trends, gather donor intelligence, and coordinate inputs from PPD teams to map the donor landscape, assist with knowledge management, support the finalization of the GCPP, and contribute to annual reporting and the climate tagging process in UNISON.Work Location:The consultant will be expected to carry out the assignment locally and work on-site at the New York Office as required.Work AssignmentsIncomeInfluenceInsightsDeliverablesThe consultant will submit monthly deliverables throughout the contract period and payments will be processed at the end of each month, upon acceptance of deliverables by the supervisor.Deliverable 1: Ongoing from 1 December 2025 to 31 December 2026Engage in internal climate coordination with the Partnerships Cone, PG CEED, and ROs to strengthen cross-divisional efforts on climate.Coordinate with PPD on innovative public-private partnerships approaches to increase climate income generation.Organize capacity-strengthening webinars for PPD donor-facing desks to provide updates on the latest trends, landscape, initiatives, value propositions, and instruments to support fundraising efforts on climate.Deliverable 2: Ongoing from 1 December 2025 to 31 December 2026Support climate engagement with public sector partners at global intergovernmental platforms and key conferences, including positioning child-centred climate action and finance at side events and bilateral engagements.Deliverable 3: Ongoing from 1 December 2025 to 31 December 2026Generate insights into global climate finance trends.Gather climate donor intelligence and coordinate inputs from PPD teams to map the donor landscape to better understand positioning of UNICEF's offer on climate action.Support knowledge management by updating the climate partnerships and financing SharePoint.Support the finalization of the GCPP for the cone, including governance and coordination mechanisms.Contribute to the annual report on financial leverage and climate tagging progress in UNISON.To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...EducationAn advanced degree in international development, human rights, climate and environment, international affairs, or a related field.Alternatively, a first-level degree with an additional two years of relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.ExperienceMinimum of two years' experience in international development, climate finance, or donor relations, preferably within the UN system or international organizations.Proven track record of analyzing climate finance trends and donor policies.Experience supporting strategic partnerships and engaging with public sector partners on climate and sustainability.Experience and knowledge of Salesforce is an added advantage.Ability to work effectively across teams and in complex institutional environments.LanguageFluency in English is required.
