Senior Business Analyst

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Business Analyst / Developer (Front Arena) within the Banking Technology department.
This role is based in Basel; however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

This job is available as a
three-year fixed-term contract.

Purpose of the job
The Senior Business Analyst / Developer will play a key role in analyzing, defining, and documenting business requirements and processes. The role involves supporting the business area in implementing and maintaining business applications and tools, in particular FIS' Cross-Asset Trading and Risk platform (Front Arena). Customizing packaged applications, and developing small to medium-sized bespoke applications, tools, and interfaces. Additionally, the role ensures compliance with the Bank's standards for system documentation, testing, and change management, while also providing production support and contributing to the Bank's IT strategy.

By Joining The Team, You Will

• Work in a specialised team supporting Treasury front office products, gaining exposure to cutting-edge financial technology.
• Work directly with the Treasury Front Office to optimise and exploit technology to improve integration, resilience and improve time to market for new Treasury initiatives and products.
• Take a leading role in implementing the Treasury Trading Systems Product roadmap, collaborating with Banking Technology counterparts.
• Assist with the development of Treasury Systems test automation initiative.
• Contribute to the Banking Technology strategy and play a key part in the ongoing modernisation of Treasury front office systems.

Principal Accountabilities

• Analyse business processes and document requirements to support the automation of operational procedures.
• Customise packaged business applications in particular Front Arena and develop bespoke small to medium-sized departmental tools, interfaces, and web-based services.
• Provide production support for business applications, ensuring compliance with the Bank's standards for system documentation, version control, testing, and change management.
• Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure systems design, integration, and change management align with organisational standards.
• Stay informed on major technology trends relevant to the business area and contribute input to the banking technology strategy.
• Support departmental tools and applications, including those developed internally or supplied by external providers, ensuring their effective use and maintenance.
• Liaise with external suppliers, participate in negotiations, and define terms for service provision.
• Lead or contribute to project teams, ensuring objectives are met while coaching and training other team members as needed.

Qualifications, Skills, And Experience

• University-level degree in information management or computer science, or the equivalent gained through professional experience.
• Excellent programming skills in one or more globally recognised programming or scripting languages (preferably Python).
• Strong knowledge of financial instruments and their integration into Treasury and Risk Management framework.
• Solid understanding of business processes related to trading, Risk, Back Office, records management, settlements and financial messaging.
• A hands-on, practical approach with strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with staff across all levels of the organisation.
• Experience working in agile development environments and familiarity with agile principles.
• Strong understanding of source control management, automated testing, and deployment practices.
• Ability to explore domains beyond current areas of expertise and write clear system and user documentation in English.
