Genf, Genf, Schweiz CERN Vollzeit CHF 80'000 - CHF 120'000 pro Jahr

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Job Description

Introduction

The Engineering Department (EN) pushes back the limits of technology so that physicists can carry out their research. Within the Electrical Engineering (EL) group of the EN department, you will join the Maintenance and Operation (MO) section, which is in charge for the maintenance and operation of CERN's electrical transmission and distribution network.

Are you a qualified and proactive Asset Management expert, specialised in the use of CMMS systems for electrical networks or industrial complexes and with solid knowledge of inventory management?

Then your skills will contribute to the operation, maintenance, consolidation, and extension of the complex electrical transmission and distribution network of CERN, dedicated to a unique laboratory hosting some of the world's most complex technical installations. Join CERN's Electrical Engineering team. Take part

Functions

  • Play a key role in establishing and maintaining the representation of the electrical network asset base and associated inventory within CERN's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Be responsible for defining and implementing asset hierarchies, failure codes, and maintenance workflows, ensuring high-quality data and operational usability for other members of the EN-EL group.
  • Your responsibilities will cover both installed equipment across CERN's electrical infrastructure and spare parts stored in the warehouses.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct a thorough inventory and classification of all assets composing the electrical network.
  • Define a hierarchical structure and data model for representing assets in the CMMS.
  • Coordinate site surveys to collect asset information and process the data using AI-based tools where applicable.
  • Input and configure all asset data in the CMMS, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and traceability.
  • Monitor data quality in the CMMS through regular audits, validation routines, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Identify data gaps and collaborate with field teams and technical experts to resolve them.
  • Configure and manage failure codes to support fault analysis and optimisation of maintenance processes.
  • Assist maintenance managers in defining and assigning preventive maintenance tasks, scheduling frequencies, and associating necessary resources (e.g. labour, tools, spare parts).
  • Support users (technicians and engineers) by providing training, user documentation, and technical assistance related to asset and maintenance data.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation on all CMMS asset configurations, hierarchies, and related structures.
  • Assist in the creation of dashboards and reports related to asset status, maintenance history, and KPIs (e.g., MTBF).
  • Define the organisation and tracking of spare parts in the warehouse, ensuring correct, identification, classification, and linkage to the corresponding assets in the CMMS.
  • You will also support the Group on operational activities when needed, for example in attending periodic tests on the network.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

To fill this position, we are looking for someone with experience:

  • In the implementation, configuration, or administration of a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), with particular emphasis on asset structuring and maintenance data modelling;
  • Working in electrical infrastructure environments, with familiarity in handling assets such as transformers, HV/MV/LV switchgear, etc;
  • In data collection and on-site surveys, ideally carried out in close collaboration with engineering and maintenance teams;
  • In spare parts management and warehouse organisation, including the accurate representation of stock items and their associations within a CMMS;
  • Using or applying AI-based tools or techniques to assist in data processing, classification, or extraction from field-collected or unstructured sources is considered an asset.

Technical competencies:

  • Operation and maintenance of electrical circuits and networks;
  • Organisation, planning and control: including works supervision;
  • Design of databases/repositories: in the context of assets structuring and maintenance data modelling.

Behavioural competencies:

  • Achieving Results: driving work / projects along and seeing them through to their conclusion.
  • Communicating Effectively: ensuring that information, procedures and decisions are appropriately documented.
  • Demonstrating Flexibility: demonstrating a willingness to accept changing circumstances; supporting initiatives for change.
  • Managing Self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.
  • Working in Teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships.

Language skills:

Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
