Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a
Shipping Legal Specialist
to join our legal department in Lugano. The ideal candidate will have a
background in maritime law, shipping practice
, with good expertise in managing
disputes and claims
arising under Charterparties, Bills of Lading, laytime, demurrage, and other related shipping contractual matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle legal and commercial disputes related to Charterparties, Bill of Lading, laytime and demurrage, cargo claims.
  • Provide post-fixture assistance and support to chartering and operations teams.
  • Review, draft and negotiate shipping contracts and related documentation.
  • Manage and coordinate claims handling, including claim preparation, assessment, negotiation, and settlement.
  • Oversee credit recovery processes and pursue outstanding receivables.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel, P&I Clubs, brokers, and clients as necessary.
  • Monitor contractual compliance and mitigate potential risks in chartering and post-fixture activities.

Requirements:

  • Mandatory 2-3 years of relevant experience in a similar position
    within the shipping or maritime legal sector;
  • Good knowledge of maritime law and chartering practices;
  • Good contract review and drafting skills;
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken); additional languages are a plus;
  • Highly analytical perspective, strong computer literacy, and the ability to thrive under pressure in a dynamic environment;
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach with the ability to work in a team under supervision of the General Counsel.
