Associate Director

We are seeking an Associate Director or Director – Systems/Computational Biologist for Drug Discovery to lead advanced computational biology initiatives at the intersection of quantum physics, systems biology, and Network medicine. This role partners closely with biology, chemistry, and data science teams to convert complex multi-omics and experimental datasets into actionable insights that accelerate therapeutic programs from early discovery to candidate selection.

The level (Associate Director vs. Director) will be determined based on experience, leadership scope, and demonstrated impact in biotech or related environments.

Associate Director level roles emphasize hands-on technical leadership and project ownership, while Director level roles carry broader responsibility for strategy, team scaling, and long-term scientific direction.

a) Duties & Responsibilities

Scientific & Technical Leadership

• Design and apply quantum physics–informed systems biological approaches to biological data analysis.
• Develop and deploy gene regulatory network (GRN) models for target identification, prioritization, and mechanistic insight.
• Drive in silico target validation using systems biology and network-based methodologies.
• Lead analysis and integration of large-scale, high-dimensional biological datasets, including scRNA-seq, transcriptomics, proteomics, and related modalities.
• Ensure robustness, reproducibility, and scalability of computational pipelines.

Team & Project Leadership

• Recruit, manage, and mentor bioinformaticians and computational scientists.
• Define clear goals, performance expectations, and development plans.
• Lead multidisciplinary projects in close collaboration with biology, translational, and data science teams.
• Prioritize and allocate resources in a dynamic startup setting with evolving scientific goals.

Startup & Strategic Contribution

• Actively contribute to the company's data, AI, and computational biology strategy.
• Evaluate emerging technologies (including quantum computing approaches) for potential impact and feasibility.
• Translate complex computational findings into actionable biological and strategic insights for senior leadership.
• Support external scientific communication, collaborations, and due diligence as needed.

b) Requirements

Education & Experience

• PhD (or equivalent experience) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Systems Biology, or a related discipline.
• Associate Director: 8–10+ years of relevant post-graduate experience.
• Director: 10–15+ years of relevant post-graduate experience, including demonstrated people and strategy leadership.

Technical Expertise

• Demonstrated expertise in quantum physics-inspired algorithms applied to systems biology and network modeling.
• Strong experience with gene regulatory networks and systems-level modeling for target discovery and in silico validation.
• Good understanding of AI/ML approaches for systems biology.
• Proficiency in Python (Mandatory), and R/Java (Optional), with experience in reproducible workflows.
• Experience designing robust, reproducible, and scalable computational pipelines.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills in a fast-paced, startup or biotech environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with single-cell RNA-seq, bulk transcriptomics, proteomics, and multi-omics integration.
• Experience in venture-backed biotech or startup environments.
• Familiarity with cloud computing, HPC, or early-stage quantum computing platforms applied to life sciences.
