We need highly motivated and curious people to join our diverse team which rapidly prototypes novel imaging sensors using physical models and unique AI algorithms. As a member of our team, you will have a great opportunity to chart the future of image sensor technology at the world leading image sensor company, Sony Semiconductor Solutions. Your work will impact the most valuable commercial applications for image sensors including mobile platforms such as smartphones, AR/VR headsets, robotics, and more.

You will:
Rapidly prototype AI-centric vision pipeline algorithms for novel imaging system concepts
Represent imaging sensors with accurate and efficient physical models at various abstraction levels
Collaborate with computer vision and image sensor experts in multi-disciplinary R&D environment to co-develop software and hardware for system-level innovation
Coordinate developments within a multi-cultural work environment that spans engineering sites from Japan, Europe, and North America across the Sony Group organization
You should have:
MSc or higher in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, … or surprise us with a background that we did not think of yet
Experience designing deep neural networks for vision applications
Proficiency in Python and PyTorch library
Confident communication skills and proficiency in English
Curiosity to actively learn and ask questions
You can set yourself apart if you have any of the following:
Experience in physical modeling, such as modeling of optics, semiconductor devices, or propagation of light
Knowledge of image sensor and camera operation
Knowledge of computational photography methods
Experience in building sustainable, reusable, well-documented research code
Track record of innovation through novel products, patents, and publications
The position is with Sony Advanced Visual Sensing (Sony AVS), which is an R&D center of Sony Semiconductor Solutions based in Schlieren, Switzerland and a former spin-off of the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). We develop novel computer vision algorithms, vision sensors, and sensing systems based on our world-leading sensing expertise, including event-based cameras, CMOS cameras, and next generation image sensing devices. Our team works closely together, forming a culture of strong collaboration and openness to new ideas. To achieve mastery of new topics and foster autonomy, we strive to give people the space to learn new things and develop themselves.
