This position is located in preclinical Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (pCMC), a department within the Small Molecule Research organization in pRED Therapeutic Modalities (TMo). We pave the path to bring drug candidates from early research into development in a diverse, ambitious, innovative, and collaborative environment. We are CMC experts and build our strength on a broad diversity of technical expertise in chemistry, formulation design, material science, and analytical chemistry, delivering and innovating in the space of small molecules, peptides, and nucleic acid-based medicines.

We are offering a unique opportunity for a Senior (Principal) Associate - Isotope Synthesis to join a multidisciplinary team of scientists working on a diverse portfolio of drug discovery projects. In your role, you will be responsible for the discovery of innovative synthetic approaches to access complex radiolabeled compound formats (small molecules, polypeptides, oligonucleotides, proteins) to support many R&D projects. Adherence to radiation protection regulations will be crucial to success in the lab.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Independently synthesize and purify radiolabeled compounds, working mainly with tritium and 14C-labeled compounds.

• Routinely optimize synthesis and purification processes to ensure the successful radiolabelling of the compounds.

• Perform analytical characterization of synthesized radiolabeled compounds using techniques such as HPLC and mass spectrometry.

• Manage the full lifecycle of radiolabeled compounds, including stock keeping, as well as the repurification, dispensing, and distribution of materials.

• Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and observations and prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

• Take ownership of new computerized system installations and ensure the ongoing maintenance and reliable operation of these systems.

• Actively drive the implementation of new information and automation technologies to enhance laboratory efficiency and data management.

• You hold a successful apprenticeship or Bachelor's degree in chemistry (or equivalent).

• You possess proven practical synthesis experience in an organic chemistry laboratory, with experience working with radiolabeled compounds being an advantage. 

• You demonstrate a high level of understanding and hands-on experience with routine analytical methodologies for APIs, including HPLC, LC-MS, UV spectroscopy, NMR, as well as state-of-the-art purification technologies.

• You possess a good technical understanding of computational systems and are familiar with recent Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

• You thrive in a dynamic environment, which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development. 

• You are resourceful and flexible in problem-solving and excel at working in a collaborative and inclusive team environment. 

• You show excellent organizational skills and strong safety awareness, reflecting your responsible and safe working practices.

• Strong communication skills and fluency in English are required. German skills and fluency would be considered a strong advantage.
