About the Role

We're seeking experienced Navajo-English medical interpreters for full-time, remote work. This role focuses on over-the-phone (OPI) and video-remote interpretation (VRI) to support clinical encounters ranging from routine appointments to urgent-care communications. We're looking for interpreters who bring accuracy, reliability, and strong ethical standards to their work.

Responsibilities

• Interpret accurately and completely between Navajo-speaking patients and English-speaking medical staff
• Maintain strict confidentiality, impartiality, and professionalism
• Use appropriate medical terminology and stay informed about healthcare procedures
• Adhere to HIPAA and the Interpreter Code of Ethics
• Manage calls calmly and efficiently in diverse medical settings
• Maintain schedule reliability and participate in QA/coaching as needed

Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency in Navajo and English
• At least one year of professional medical interpreting experience (OPI or VRI strongly preferred)
• Solid knowledge of medical vocabulary, interpreter protocol, and confidentiality standards
• High school diploma or equivalent (higher education is a plus)
• Strong active listening, memory, and note-taking skills
• Ability to pass a language-proficiency assessment and background check

Remote Work Requirements

• Wired Ethernet connection (Wi-Fi not permitted)
• Minimum 20 Mbps download/ 10 Mbps upload speed
• PC or laptop with minimum Intel Core i5 (8th generation or higher), 8 GB RAM, and 1080p webcam
• Wired USB noise-cancelling headset (black colour, small size)
• Quiet workspace, free from distractions
• Solid grey background for video calls
