Research Team Manager - Materials

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB's operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.

The work model for the role is: #LI-Onsite

This role is contributing to the Materials team at the ABB corporate research center in Switzerland. In the frame of a six-month internship scheduled to start in January or February 2026, you will be able to put theory into practice by contributing to our projects related to future energy technologies.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Contributing to current research projects focusing on innovative metal, ceramic- and polymer-based materials and manufacturing processes
• Analyzing the produced materials or engineering prototypes with various characterization techniques to obtain a good understanding of the relationship between process parameters, microstructure, and material characteristics
• Evaluating and documenting findings and presenting test results to the team

You will join a highly motivated and multidisciplinary team that is passionate about materials, where you will be able to thrive.

Qualifications for the role:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science/Engineering or a related discipline (completion of at least six semesters); official enrollment is essential
• You are absorbed in materials characterization tools and the electrical components market
• You have first experience in additive manufacturing
• Highly adept in CAD modelling and programming languages like python
• You are captivated by data analysis and presentations
• Fluent command of English, both written and spoken; German is a plus

The Materials team at ABB's Swiss research center in the proximity of Zurich focuses on the development and manufacturing of innovative materials to be implemented in the company's future products.
