THE INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING LEAGUE

The International Swimming League (ISL – ) is the first global professional swimming League, uniting the world's best swimmers to compete together in an unprecedented team-based format. This format is uniquely designed for entertainment and advertising, bringing out the best in our swimmers. World records are regularly set during our matches, such as Caeleb Dressel's still-standing 100m IM WR in 2021.

After three seasons in 2019, 2020 and 2021, the ISL successfully grew its average concurrent audience to over 1 million viewers across platforms that include CBS in America, Eurosport in Europe and TV Asahi in Japan. We are also globally partnered with DAZN for streaming.

Despite a hiatus due to the disruptions caused by War in Ukraine, we are looking to relaunch the ISL in 2026. It is with this in mind that we are opening a new office for our Global HQ in Geneva, and are
seeking to hire a suitable candidate for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) role
.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The CEO's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, and in no particular order:

  • Overseeing negotiations with prospective host cities and/or countries for future ISL matches;
  • Ensuring the successful organisation of matches, including but not limited to venue and stage set-up, TV production, personnel (athlete, staff and subcontractor) management etc.;
  • Coordinating the ISL's commercial relationship with broadcasters and/or streaming platforms, with the key aim of maximising viewership and engagement in key markets;
  • Maximising the revenue derived from the sale of the ISL's sponsorship inventory – whether through the broadcasting/streaming of match content, or through social media and other related platforms;
  • Managing all ISL staff, including but not limited to the staff of the ISL's constituent clubs and athletes;
  • Overseeing the development of the ISL 'Popular Aquatic League';
  • Overseeing ISL legal matters;
  • Becoming the director of the ISL Switzerland entity and fulfilling the responsibilities therein;
  • Any other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the ISL Board.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

In addition to being willing to fulfil the requirements laid out above, the CEO must:

  • Have a deep understanding of the sport of swimming, the organization of sports competitions and the wider sports/media/entertainment business;
  • Demonstrate proven experience in fundraising and sports promotion;
  • Possess a minimum of 10+ years of experience in the leadership role of a business, including having held a management or executive position, even if that business is not directly related to sports;
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, coordination, diplomatic and public speaking skills;
  • Be able to identify solutions in litigation or dispute contexts;
  • Possess excellent negotiation skills;
  • Have strong language skills: fluency in English, French and Chinese is required; additional languages preferred;
  • Hold a relevant higher education degree (e.g., in economics, sports industry, etc.);
  • Be willing to be primarily based in Geneva to work closely in-person with other key ISL personnel;
  • Be willing to regularly travel for ISL business as required;

COMPENSATION

The starting offer includes
138,000 CHF per annum, plus reasonable expenses and KPI-based incentive pay
