GraalVM is an open source research project at Oracle Labs aiming to develop new language execution technology to make programs run faster and developers more productive. Its ambition is to be the future of the JVM. Using new research approaches, it leads to great performance improvements and opens the door to fast programs running in a single process while being written in multiple languages.
In order to assess GraalVM language implementation performance, there exists hundreds of benchmarks for which small performance changes must be detected as early as possible. Ideally this should be done before the code is merged to the main line. However, it is very challenging to balance accuracy of the benchmarking process with a limited amount of compute to analyse a given code change. This project aims at improving the developer experience by providing the most optimal approach to run the most important benchmarks and automatically report if the performance has been affected while minimising the resources required to do so.
