ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with various ABB business areas, is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. In Switzerland, the ABB Corporate Research Center located in the proximity of Zurich, employs 100 scientists from over 25 countries, with expertise in automation and power technologies for manufacturing, consumer and process industries as well as for power utilities. We are looking for an outstanding personality who combines a good scientific track record with strong leadership skills.

**This position reports to**:
R&D Department Lead

**Your responsibilities**:

- Lead a research team with 7 - 10 scientists and technicians
- Coach project leaders for scientific excellence and professional execution of R&D projects with the aim to transfer research results into ABB’s products
- Following the strategic direction, define priorities within the team in close collaboration with our internal network
- Develop talents inside the team and strengthen the team by recruiting of new ones
- Contribute scientifically to sensing and analytics research projects
- Create, extend, and maintain network to relevant ABB Divisions and other research centers
- Create an innovative and motivating atmosphere, promoting the ABB values of collaboration, curiosity, courage, and care

**Your background**:

- PhD in Physics, Physical Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience in people management, either as team leader, project leader or in other managerial roles is considered a bonus
- Experience with one or multiple of the following topics is expected: Sensor Technology, Signal Processing, Sensing Electronics, Perception Sensing (hardware and/or data science)
- Several years of experience in industrial R&D and research project management
- Fluency in English and willingness to learn German
- Very high technical interest and openness to new fields of research and technology
- Good communication skills and interest in lively interaction within an interdisciplinary team
