Automation Technician

**Job Description** Your responsibilities**

Within the Beams department (BE), the Industrial Control Systems group (ICS) develops solutions and provides support for large and medium scale industrial control systems, also promoting their use. The support covers the domains of the experiments, the technical infrastructure and the accelerators.
The Controls Engineering section (BE-ICS-ECS) is in charge of the engineering of the industrial control systems and provides technology support CERN wide.

Would you like to develop, commission and troubleshoot industrial control systems for one of the world's most complex technical instruments? We use an original approach based on industrial standards and the latest technologies.

We are looking for a Technician with a versatile set of automation skills applied to industrial control systems. You will contribute to a project that covers the control systems for two new cryogenic systems (comprising industrial equipment like cold boxes, compressors and transfer lines), of the LHC accelerator cryogenics system

In this position, you will:

- Support with engineering and commissioning turn-key PLC-based control systems.
- Participate in the development and commissioning of new HL-LHC project cryogenics plants control systems.
- Gather the requirements of the control systems and compile all the relevant documents (e.g. specifications, material purchasing, etc).
- Configure and program PLCs and fieldbus systems, following up on the installations (IEC-61131-3 standard, Schneider Unity Pro (EcoStruxure Control Expert)).
- Participate in the commissioning by managing the tests on platform (FAT) and in situ (SAT).
- Introduce the assets in the CERN asset management system and consolidate the existing base of equipment of the project.
- Establish the test benches in the lab to validate the technical choices.

**Your profile**

**Skills**:

- Experience configuring and programming PLCs and fieldbus systems including following up of the installations.
- Experience with IEC-61131-3 standard, Schneider Unity Pro (EcoStruxure Control Expert) and management of the control assets.
- Fluent in English or French.

Eligibility criteria:

- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
