Diluviam is developing an implantable device (the Diluviam Valve) to control the flow of blood through an arteriovenous fistula for haemodialysis patients. The first step of the development process will be to conduct in vitro experiments to investigate the performance of a number of possible valve embodiments against some key performance parameters. The valve iterations are set out in a separate document (New Patent Filing Doc) as are the performance parameters.

You will be fully briefed on the background to the valve concept, its use and the clinical advantages that it offers.
In particular, you will be guided through the Design Rationale for New Embodiments.

This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of an implantable medical device (a valve) that will greatly improve the longevity and quality of life for a growing number of dialysis patients. The device manages blood flow between an artery and a vein. Key to its performance is the architecture of the valve aperture and the resulting blood flow profile through it.

The work will provide a preliminary assessment for Diluviam to inform a choice of valve options to be developed into working prototypes.

Tasks
- New medical device development investigating product designs that achieve optimum performance with regard to flow profiles and their likely effects, measured against defined criteria.
- Computer-aided design; 3-D renderings of each of the valve iterations (across a range of dimensions) using Solid Works, AutoCAD, Rhino or other suitable CAD software.
- Computational Fluid Dynamics studies using Comsol Multi-Physics or other suitable software to investigate the flow profile achieved through the valve aperture for each valve iteration.
- Assessment of the resulting likely effects as measured against the key performance parameters.
- Providing initial assessments on optimal materials and production processes.
- Provide research-based analysis and assessment of potential methods of actuation.
- Provide design and delivery of suitable bench flow research apparatus.
- In vitro modelling, design and assembly of flow simulation apparatus.

**Requirements**:

- Degree-level in engineering and an interest in product design in the medical device arena.
- An interest in and knowledge of fluid dynamics.
- Proficiency, or the ability to acquire it rapidly, in the use of CAD and CFD software.
- A self-motivated team player
- High proficiency in English.
