Head of Epidemiology

**OBJECTIVES**:

- Work with the Head of Strategic services in defining and implementing strategy for the epidemiology function.
- Provide leadership and expertise necessary to develop and execute the overall strategy of the Global Development Epidemiology function.
- Lead on ensuring the epidemiology department actively contributes to maximizing the value of the Companies products.
- Identifying most appropriate settings for regulatory required post marketing observational studies.
- Understanding the epidemiology of target diseases: bring proposals to the Global Project Teams for studies that will shape development programmes.
- Take ownership for selected cross-discipline (e.g., research, clinical development, clinical laboratory sciences) activities which have a strong population perspective component.
- Manage staff in epidemiology & external vendors: allocate resources across projects, which will include projects managed by head of epidemiology; responsible for individual and group development. Work with specialized vendors/CROs to deliver projects.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Serve as global decision-maker for the Epidemiology function including representative in interactions with functions within VBU clinical development (e.g., clinical teams, regulatory affairs,developmentdelivery),outsideClinicalDevelopment(e.g.,globalmedical affairs, market access, Health economics, Discovery) and external vendors.
- Regulatory required observational post marketing commitment studies meet
regulatory timelines and are conducted in accordance with applicable legislation.
- Observational studies to support clinical development including complex primary data collection studies with laboratory endpoints.
- Scientific and compliance advice for all vaccines observational (disease awareness) studies to support commercialization.
- Development, implementation of SOPs including incorporation of EMA GVPs into SOPs. Ensurecompliancewithallapplicableinternalpoliciesandprocedures,GCPs,andallapplicable regulations.
- Contribute to the translation of research and clinical trial findings to the impact of vaccines on disease in the target population.
- Partner with external groups conducting epidemiologic and other community studies globally; initiate and manage external collaborations globally.
- Make presentations to the scientific, medical and public health communities at national and international meetings, including authoring final reports summarizing study results & manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.

**EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS**:

- 12+ years of relevant experience with a Medical Degree or PhD and specific training in epidemiologic methods preferred (eg, MPH degree or applied epidemiology training such as Epidemic Intelligence Service (CDC), European Program for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) or Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP).
- Eminent professional in Epidemiology scientific function.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
- Experience in public health field and/or medical informatics and/or biostatistics.
- Experience in designing and/or conducting international epidemiologic studies, preferably in the vaccine field.
- Leadership, decision making and organizational skills (staff, time, projects and budgets).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Should be highly motivated, creative and possess strong analytical skills.
