Our client is an asset management boutique based in Zurich, that designs customized investment solutions for institutional investors who care about sustainability. The company develops specific asset class as well as cross-asset class solutions and is supervised by FINMA.
Our client's Multi Asset investment team seeks to fill a new Strategist role, to conduct macro, thematic and industry research, as well as support the bottom-up identification and evaluation of investment ideas, to support the development and management of their funds.
You will play a key role in developing investable propositions based on cross-industry themes that address global sustainability challenges and will assist in the development and implementation of investment frameworks centred on thematic roadmaps and value chains.
Tasks
- Work closely with management and the investment teams to identify investable and long-term themes that address global sustainability challenges
- Take the lead on performing strategic analysis to develop a clear definition, scope and framework for the theme (and its component sub-themes) and the related macro drivers
- The research should include developing roadmaps to identify the expected direction of development for each sub-theme and ideally develop and integrate a “theory of change” for each sub-theme
- Define and evaluate the related value chain(s) for each sub-theme and conduct situational analysis of the participants
- Collaborate with the investment and sustainability teams to define a theme-related investable universe, which may be in listed or private markets, in equities as well as other asset classes, incorporating SDG and other sustainability targets for each theme
- Integrate and evaluate data from leading data providers of fundamental, market and sustainability data and develop methodologies to screen and rank companies and investments based on the framework
- Work directly with the internal investment teams and other stakeholders to support the development of new products for these themes, from concept to launch, and to enhance/repurpose existing products with new thematic ideas and frameworks. The Strategist will continue to play a key role in the research and monitoring required to support and manage these products, and in the presentation and marketing of the products to clients and prospects
- Participate in the investment committee which manages all multi asset products and the balanced client portfolios, providing insights and inputs into the portfolio construction and positioning based on identified macro and thematic events and trends
- Assist in the analysis and reporting of the client portfolios’ thematic exposures and in developing and communicating the strategy to manage and grow those exposures.
**Requirements**:
- 5 years of experience and broad knowledge of investment markets and asset classes
- Able to think strategically while also being detail-oriented. Previous experience in a strategic research context, for example in climate-related themes, would be ideal
- Some experience of fundamental analysis of companies and industries is necessary
- Ability to manage and analyse complex data and concepts and find balanced solutions
- Understanding and experience of sustainability frameworks and data providers would be valuable
- Self-starter, able to work independently but also assist and collaborate closely with colleagues where necessary
- Fluent English (any other language as a plus)
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Minimum Bachelor's (ideally Master's) university degree; CFA and/or MBA would be a bonus
