As an Associate Principal Scientist within our Microbial Research & Development Team in Lonza Biologics in Visp you will lead or support complex technology development projects in the field of Strain Engineering. You will collaboratively work in an interdisciplinary team to build overarching workflows that link strain engineering, cell-based (high-throughput) screening, and bioanalytical methods to develop the next generation microbial production hosts. You will define the scope and timelines of innovation projects, design, plan and execute studies and draw conclusions through detailed analysis of data. You are enthusiastic about innovation and new technologies and enjoy transferring science into tangible deliverables.
**Key responsibilities**:

- Drive microbial strain development by engineering of bacterial and yeast production hosts to optimize them for recombinant production processes
- Develop and implement analytical technologies for high-throughput strain characterization and screening and general methods for Bioanalytics
- Act as a SME for cell-based screening technology and (Protein) Bioanalytics
- Manage and coordinate internal and external projects, plan and execute experiments with scientific rigor, analyze/interpret and present data in internal and external meetings
- Participate in experimental lab work

**Key requirements**:

- MSc or BSc degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Biotechnology, Biochemistry/Bioanalytics, (Systems
- or Molecular) Biology or similar
- Experience in high-throughput phenotypic screening, cell sorting (FACS) and development of appropriate analytical methods ; experience in automation is a plus
- Strong background in Bioanalytics, Molecular Biology and general knowledge of strain engineering
- Knowledge in cellular pathway engineering, laboratory evolution or in fermentation processes would be advantageous
- Scientific rigor, initiative and willingness to learn. Ideally, you have an affinity for data and experience in analyzing complex data sets
- Excellent communication skills in English complete your profile. German is a plus
