**24-month Postdoctoral position / Trace metal stable isotope cycling in anoxic lakes**:
**About the project**: Trace metal stable isotopes are widely used as proxies to reconstruct redox conditions throughout Earth’s past, and are emerging tracers of biological productivity. A mechanistic understanding of the processes driving fractionation and the formation of signals in the sediment record are necessary for robust reconstructions using these proxies. Anoxic lakes offer a range of iron-rich and sulfur-poor conditions, which were widespread throughout Earth’s history but absent in the modern ocean. Therefore, anoxic lakes can offer unique insight into controls on trace element cycling through geologic time, as well as mechanisms that drive the stable isotope records used as proxies. **This project will focus on a process-based understanding of the cycling of redox-sensitive stable isotope systems** (e.g. Cr, Mo) across a range of anoxic lakes. The position will involve fieldwork and collaboration with physicists, microbiologists, and biogeochemists conducting cutting-edge research on physico-biogeochemical cycling.
