Clinical Development Head

The Clinical Development Head is accountable for the functional excellence of the clinical/medical team members as well as the Function Manager for Global Program Clinical Heads and works in collaboration with the Global Program Heads to deliver the portfolio and project priorities. This role provides strong support to the Development Unit Leadership Team as a key member. Incumbent will set overall clinical strategy for the Development Unit and may deputize for certain leadership functions and senior management meetings.

Your key responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Head the clinical function and provide leadership and oversight to Global Program Clinical Heads.
- Lead global talent management, career development and succession planning activities in the clinical function.
- Serve as deputy for the Development Unit Head for key activities and key meetings
- Bring clinical design excellence to the programs in the Development Unit with responsibility for methodology development, biomarker development, quality and compliance and dose selection strategy.
- Establish short
- and long-range portfolio and disease area vision and strategy in collaboration with Development Unit Head.
- Responsible for interface with Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR), in coordination with Global Program Head Early Portfolio and Development
- Provides medical and strategic input into Business Development & Licensing assessments in relation to portfolio goals and priorities
- Clinical Development resource for Global Medical Affairs run phase 4 programs
- Represents Clinical Development function at oversight meetings for later phase and earlier phase programs for medical, strategic and portfolio-wide perspectives
- Global Drug Development Co-Chair of Integrated Scientific Review Committee for Development Unit

**Minimum requirements**

What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential:

- MD or equivalent required; clinical specialty or subspecialty training preferred
- Min 10 years of drug development or clinical research experience including experience leading Global Teams in dossier submission for New Chemical Entity or Biologic
- Proven track record of R&D leadership, drug development and personnel management
- Clinical Background relevant to the Programs in the Development Franchise (Medical Training or Experience on Program Teams) is preferred
- Track record of success in leading cross-functional teams.
- Experience in product registration and major Health Authority interactions required
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of operational issues
- Fully competent in GCP and pharmacovigilance practices
- Demonstrate competence in understanding of commercial and market access issues and collaborate closely with these groups.
