EAL Tutor
Purpose of Role
To deliver a new pull-out English-as-an-Additional-Language (EAL) programme for pupils aged 6 - 11 who need targeted support. The two-year programme focuses on oral fluency, practical language use and preparation for Cambridge Movers and Flyers exams, mapped to the CEFR (A1-A2+). The role is part time and starts in August 2025.
Qualifications and Experience
- Recognised EAL / ESL certificate or primary teaching degree (PGCE, M.Ed., etc.).
- Minimum 3 years’ recent EAL experience.
- Research-based understanding of first
- and second-language acquisition, and an ability to explain these principles to non-specialists.
- Inquiry-, project
- and play-based teaching.
- Familiarity with Cambridge Movers & Flyers content and CEFR banding for young learners.
- Confident user of educational technology to boost engagement and strengthen home-school partnerships.
- Culturally sensitive, collaborative and able to build strong relationships with colleagues and parents.
- Self-motivated, organised and reflective.
- Positive, flexible and willing to contribute to a dynamic school community.

You are accountable for delivering on the desired outcomes in each of the components listed below, and the ongoing development of the school and learning improvement.
Key Responsibilities.
As the English tutor, you will have to:
- Teach small groups of 2-4 students, adjusting pace and content to individual needs.
- Prioritise oral confidence and listening comprehension while integrating reading and writing skills.
- Co-plan with class teachers so language targets align with classroom concepts and vocabulary.
- Maintain regular, clear communication with parents—sharing progress updates and home-support strategies via digital platforms (e-portfolios, short videos, online flash-cards, etc.).
- Use ongoing formative techniques and design tasks to track growth.
- Monitor progress against CEFR “can-do” statements and share data with teachers, parents and senior leaders.
- Serve as an EAL resource for the Mosaic community—offering workshops on language-acquisition theory and inclusive classroom practice.
