Experimental AC losses assessment in superconducting magnets for proton therapy
**Your tasks**:
- Proton therapy is a very promising radiation treatment capable to irradiate tumors with millimeter precision and therefore to spare the neighboring healthy tissues. PSI has a long history for the proton‐therapy, started in the 80’s and the next step would be the use of superconducting magnets to build a new‐generation of gantries or cyclotrons for proton therapy.
- The objectives of this internship is to contribute to the adaptation of the magnet support to the cryogenic facility and the test of the sub‐scale magnet. The student will be part of the process of design and manufacture of the tests setups up to the performance of the tests themselves, which are the AC losses assessment and the quench detection. The experimental activities will be followed by the development of post‐processing routines of the data and analysis.
**Your profile**:
- You are a student in engineering or physics, and you are at least at your first year of the Master degree
- You have experience in matlab and data analysis
- You have an interest in practical laboratory work and instrumentation
- You have not yet completed your Master’s thesis
