Director of Materials

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Director of Materials for the DePuy Synthes R&D Research and Testing organization. The location of the role could be any of the Research & Development sites supporting the DePuy Synthes businesses. (Raynham MA, West Chester PA, Warsaw IN, Palm Beach Gardens FL, Leeds UK, or Oberdorf, Switzerland)

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Build and drive a culture of accountability and consistency across the project teams, platforms, and sites. Mentor employees to set the material development and verification strategy for programs by providing consultation, authoring test plans, authoring test documents, and authoring reports.
- Build and drive a culture of collaboration with product development and supply chain to evaluate and assess optimal materials for future product development programs and assess concepts to inform decisions and deliver quality products.
- Work with cross functional partners on the process and resourcing model to support lifecycle management activities (Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Complaints)
- Build and implement operational strategies for the materials department. Development and implementation of resource & budget strategies ensuring accurate alignment to DePuy Synthes and platform prioritization. Creation a robust governance process for communication, status updates, metrics, and dashboards. Collaboration with other R&T leaders to ensure alignment across the organizational pillars.
- Develop and mentor talent. Focus on building robust development plans, competency models, internal growth, promotion, and retention of talent.
- Enable a cultural shift to drive pre-charter involvement on product development teams to change from a “make it and break it” mentality to a pre-emptive technology de-risking and digital first mentality.
- Build opportunities for efficiencies in how work can be done, through a continuous improvement approach.
- Collaborate and partner with cross functions in Quality, Regulatory and Product Development to help shape policies and work instructions to drive new innovative ways of working.

**Qualifications** Education**:

- Must hold a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering or Science Field Required

**Required**:

- A minimum of 10 years of product development and/or materials experience is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of supervisory / managerial experience is also required.
- Experience in a regulated environment is required
- Ability to lead and develop others is required
- A demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional and senior management to impact decision-making is required, as are strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Up to 20% travel domestic and international.
- The ability to review and critically assess documentation is a must

**Preferred**:

- Medical Device and Material experience
