Emea Principal Scientist

The challenge:
As scientist within our Formulation R&D Center in Kaiseraugst, you will focus on product form development of vitamins, nutritional lipids, carotenoids and other health ingredients within a team in a modern and creative environment. You will be part of our global Bioscience and Process Innovation organization and collaborate with colleagues from Chemistry, Biotech and Analytical Science. In the envisaged position, you will work in multidisciplinary project teams offering the great opportunity to deepen your expertise in designing product forms and formulation processes (spray dying, granulation, extrusion,.), for pharma, food and feed products.

The position:

- Coordination, organization and execution of laboratory trials in alignment with peers for preparation of prototypes via diverse formulation techniques and analytical characterization.
- Development and evaluation of novel formulation principles/technologies to enhance functionality of orally administered nutrients (e.g. improve bioavailability and/or stability, control release rates and/or location).
- Ensure availability of state-of-the-art information on formulation technologies via participation in conferences, regular screening of scientific and relevant patent literature
- Comprehensive reporting and documentation of results and experiments including presentations.
- Evaluation and characterization of novel raw materials (functionalities and properties) in formulation of fat-soluble and water-soluble actives.
- Building up and maintaining network with internal and external expert centers, institutes, and universities.
- Further development of existing and implementation of new formulation technologies.
- Implementation of technology at production sites by providing appropriate technical data and support in person.

The ideal:

- PhD degree in food technology, food chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology or similar
- Minimum 5 years of work experience
- Experience in formulation of bio-actives and analytical characterization of their product forms (food / feed / pharma) is ideal
- Experience in controlled delivery formulation approaches (e.g. encapsulation, cocrystal formation, lipid-based formulations), and manufacturing technologies (e.g. spray drying, milling, granulation, extrusion).
- Experience in material, physical-chemical and morphological characterization techniques is ideal
- Fluent in written and spoken English. German is an asset
- Strong team player with good communication skills
- Highly motivated, independent, open-minded, solution oriented, with ability to operate in a multinational environment.
