The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low

Within the department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH), the Society, Gender and Health unit is offering a position of a**:Research Assistant**

NIIDS project stands for new integrated infectious disease diagnosis and surveillance system (NIIDS) to improve migrant and refugee health. The project planned to assess healthcare needs of migrants and refugees, as well as set up a platform to support the diagnosis and management of clinically relevant infectious diseases in these vulnerable populations in Ethiopia and Switzerland. Swiss TPH, Switzerland and Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) are working on NIIDS project that will be carried out in Ethiopia. The project is expected to provide solid evidence and help us to identify and understand the actual healthcare needs of these vulnerable and displaced populations, the study will take place in the Aysaita refugee camp, Afar region, Ethiopia that currently host over 30,000 refugees and asylum-seekers. The project has secured ethics approval from AHRI ethics review board and got support letter from ARRA and Afar regional health bureau.

**Your position**
- Activities related to the NIIDS project including data collection, piloting, transcription, translation, analysis and write up under technical lead and support of NIIDS team
- Travelling to designated areas (Aysaita refugee camp) to conduct the fieldwork
- Collecting high-quality qualitative data at the refugee camp and in the host community
- Gathering and accurately recording responses for research questions

**Your profile**
- Bachelor's degree (BSC/BA Degree) or its equivalent in any of the following fields: Public health, Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, Veterinary medicine, Sociology, Gender studies, Demography, Anthropology, or related fields AND currently MSC/MPH student who completed his/her course work in Samara University
- Fluency in at least one Ethiopian language/Amharic and either Afaraf or Tigrinya
- Fluency in English, written and spoken is essential
- Previous experience in data collection, including analysis and write-up
- A clear understanding of the Ethiopian health systems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience and ability to work in fragile contexts
- A good understanding of the work environment and a critical ethical consideration in the data collection process is mandatory
- Experience using digital data collection tools (RedCap) will be an asset
- Adhere to all project data protocols and be responsible for maintaining good relations with the NIIDS team, partner organizations, and project participants
- Willingness to learn, explore new experiences, and work in remote settings
- Participate in the training of the team with full attendance and participation
- Participate and present the results in a consultative meeting (debriefing)
- Student applicants have interest and working on sexual reproductive health (SRH) research areas are highly encouraged
- Previous experience of working with women and adolescents is an asset
