We are looking for highly skilled full-time staff to help with our internal and external investigation function. This would primarily involve conducting thorough investigations into escalated transaction monitoring alerts, ad hoc investigations, and collaborating with law enforcement to assist law enforcement with their investigations, including those that do not include Tether customers. This position requires excellent analytical skills, investigative techniques, making decisions with documented evidence and analytics, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. Senior members of the investigations team will provide training on blockchain analysis, investigative techniques, our ever-evolving investigation procedures, and stakeholder communications. The incumbent will also be cross-trained on our onboarding procedures to ensure an understanding of our documented resources to supplement investigations and conduct onboarding when needed.
In this role, the incumbent’s main responsibilities include; serving as a primary point of contact for law enforcement agencies, working closely with law enforcement, using blockchain forensic tools and clearly presenting the results to law enforcement and management, conducting investigations on internal Tether customers using KYC and transactional forensics, file Suspicious Activity Reports accurately and timely, and assist the compliance team with complex ad-hoc investigations. The incumbent must be comfortable making decisions and recommendations based on ambiguous information.
The incumbent will be cross-trained by the Compliance and Manager in conducting investigations using KYC information and blockchain analytics. Tether used a continuous improvement model which requires participation from investigators to develop implement and continuously improve, the Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and Transaction Monitoring (TM) program, investigation policies and procedures and ensuring that Compliance Unit executes the company’s regulatory reporting requirements and effectively mitigating money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF) and Sanctions offense risks in accordance with applicable laws and expectations in the jurisdictions in which the company operates. While the primary role will be law enforcement investigations, the position will also entail the incumbent being cross-trained on customer onboarding procedures.
The position will entail regular written and verbal communication and the incumbent should demonstrate a natural ability to communicate politely and clearly with internal and external parties, whilst in command of our strict investigation and KYC/EDD standards.
The incumbent will maintain and develop strong relationships and network amongst peers in the industry to learn and share best practices and analytical techniques.
In performing the role, the incumbent will strive to continuously self-develop and enhance their skill sets including understanding blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activities in the space, criminals’ modus operandi and best investigative practices to mitigate against the risk of money laundering, financing terrorism or violating sanctions on behalf of Tether, and to ensure the company’s robust Regulatory Compliance.
