**The Role**:
The role has lead responsibility for driving early, research-stage innovation in Europe via
- identifying, evaluating and facilitating the integration of new product and technology opportunities into the Global Research Portfolio; and
- leading the expansion of strategic European Research collaborative relationships to help deliver on Therapeutic Area (TA) and R&D strategy.

**Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:

- Lead the development and evolution of CSL’s Research External Innovation strategy in Europe.
- Lead the proactive identification of European discovery and pre-clinical innovation opportunities to support CSL’s Therapeutic Area strategy and Global Research External Innovation strategy in Europe.
- Lead the management, growth and establishment of key, strategic collaboration and partnership opportunities primarily with academic institutions, as well as with early-stage biotech companies and VCs as required, to drive Research innovation and help deliver on the Global Research External Innovation strategy.
- Lead the expansion of CSL’s early-stage research funding and collaboration initiative - the CSL Research Acceleration Initiative - in Europe.
- Responsibility as the global Research External Innovation Lead for a designated Therapeutic Area(s), leading proactive identification and evaluation of all external Research opportunities relating to that Therapeutic Area(s) and membership of Research Therapeutic Area Leadership Team(s).
- Lead Research evaluations and due diligence assessments of new product, technology and partnership opportunities.
- Work closely with CSL’s Strategy and Business Development and Global Licencing teams to facilitate agreement execution for innovation opportunities that pass Research due diligence.
- Manage the Research External Innovation Europe budget.
- Support the establishment of CSL’s new start-up biotech incubator in Marburg, Germany

**Your skills and experience**:

- Proven track record of driving new science and technology products/platforms into pipeline projects
- PhD in relevant life sciences discipline
- Business development/tech transfer experience in academia or industry
- Strong existing networks with European academic organisations, incubators, life sciences hubs, and/or Tech Transfer organisations
- Minimum 10 years employment experience in life sciences sector
- Postdoctoral experience in the field of Immunology, Hematology, Respiratory, Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease, or Transplant will be highly regarded.
- In addition to established links with European academic organisations, strong networks with European start up, VC and biotech sector will be highly regarded
- Experience in establishing, operating or working with biotech incubators also highly regarded
- Demonstrated proficiency at leading complex multi-faceted projects and managing cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
- Must have excellent and proven people/stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to lead change.
- Must be able to deal with rapid change, have a strong customer service focus, be committed to high quality outcomes.
- Provide advice, assistance and guidance to others.
- Be an excellent scientist and strategic thinker.
- Have resource planning, scheduling and budgeting skills.
- Fluency in English and French will be highly regarded.
