**Job Description** Your responsibilities**

Join CERN, the world's leading particle physics laboratory, as part of the High Field Magnet (HFM) Programme. Contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at advancing High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnet technology for next-generation particle accelerators.

The Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) group of the Technology Department (TE), has the mandate to design, construct, measure, and qualify the superconducting and normal conducting magnets for the CERN accelerator complex. Within the High Temperature Superconductors and Devices (HSD) section of the MSC group we explore the potential and develop HTS magnet technology using state-of-the-art high temperature superconductors.

In this role you will perform tests in liquid nitrogen to evaluate the electromagnetic performance of HTS cables and subscale magnets developed at CERN. You will help instrument the test articles with magnetic field and temperature sensors, develop test plans, acquire and analyse the data to inform the continuing development of HTS magnet technologies at CERN.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Electromagnetic testing of HTS devices (cables and coils) in cryogenic environments.
- Instrumentation of test articles.
- Data analysis and interpretation of test results.

You will have the opportunity to:

- Contribute to advancements in HTS technology for future particle accelerators.
- Access to world-class facilities and collaboration with top experts in superconducting magnets and cryogenics.
- A stimulating and multicultural environment, fostering professional growth and innovation.

Join us in shaping the future of particle physics by driving innovation in HTS magnet technology

**Your profile**

**Skills**:

- Experience with electrical measurements.
- Experience with measurement automation and LabVIEW.
- Experience with scripting language-based data analysis (preferably Python).
- Experience with superconductivity and cryogenics technologies would be an advantage.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:

- a **Master's degree with 2 to 6 years** of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a **PhD with no more than 3 years** of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

**Additional Information**
Job closing date**:09.06.2025 at 23:59 CEST**.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Target start date: 01-August-2025

This position involves:

- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.

Job reference: TE-MSC-HSD-2025-75-GRAP

Field of work: Applied Physics

**What we offer**
- A monthly stipend ranging between **6287** and 6911** Swiss Francs per month (net of tax)**.
- Coverage by CERN's comprehensive **health scheme** (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN **Pension Fund**.
- Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
- ** 30 days of paid leave per year**.
- On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
