The Global Art Curator will provide the overarching art strategy/mission and professional art management to top management and support commitment to artistic diversity, innovation by maintaining a compelling modern and contemporary art collection, and building and maintaining a high-level digital database. Further, the Global Art Curator will closely work with the Sponsoring & Donations department, to support the assessment of sponsoring engagements with Artistic Institutions (museums etc.) and provide advise to the Company Archive in its dealings with the sensitive storage of documents, photographs and other items.
The position will effectively and efficiently manage the global art collection ensuring that:
- The Curatorial program goals are aligned to the company’s larger objectives and mission.
- It is appropriately managed and sized according to the company’s needs.
- It provides an engaging place for colleagues to work promoting both innovation and creativity.
Your responsibilities:
Thought leadership

- Drive innovation in technology and data approaches and solutions which can improve the experience of associates and leaders across all future ways of working.
- Create the space for leaders themselves to take responsibility for the change and practicing new ways of working, and personally ensuring these leaders deliver visible transformative results both by enabling their teams to perform to their best and give way to achieve the space, technology, and ways of working transformation locally.
Technical Expertise
- Develop the art strategy of the Company, indicating the need for an overarching art strategy/mission and professional art management.
- Together with the Board Chair and the Corporate Secretary decide upon purchases of art for the collection that is appropriate and aligned with the company’s image and requirements, and decide upon appropriate disposal strategies for surplus art including sales, auctions, donations.
- Global Responsibility for Collection Management, ensuring all pieces of art are stored in an appropriate way. Ensure security of all high value pieces in the collection.
- Global Responsibility for implementing and maintaining the corporate art database including artist, work, medium, image, location, value etc. Ensure that where practicable, the art database is matched to Fixed Asset Register. Brings the digitalization of the art database to the next level, building a high-level virtual catalogue of the art collection.
- Complete annual audits, establish a global vendor base for installation, management, retrieval and restoration.
- Set Corporate guidelines for the management and control of all art related activities across the global company’s operations.
- Provide guidance to markets and sites on the best and most appropriate artworks to be kept and displayed at their locations.
- Act as the single point of contact for the company’s liaison/relationship with Artistic institutions (museums etc.).
- Support the company’s Sponsoring & Donations department in assessing any potential sponsoring and further engagements with Artistic institutions.
- Implementation of Artistic & Curatorial Guidance.
- Working with Senior Management, BU’s and external organizations in planning, developing and presenting exhibitions (both internal and external).
- Arranging restoration and conservation work on artwork where appropriate and working with legal to ensure that company does not infringe upon original artists rights as they pertain to artwork owned by Novartis.
- Provide professional advise to the company’s archive in its dealings with the sensitive storage of documents, photographs and other items.
- Promotion of a program of education about the art works in the company’s collection bringing awareness and appreciation of these works to colleagues.
- Supports Corporate Secretary (as required) and members of other teams, reporting to Corporate Secretary, on special projects and activities.
Team Leadership
- Act as a diplomat, negotiator, and coach to align the agendas of the business and stakeholders
- Create and establish an actively engaged community through leadership of projects and cross-functional tea
