The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated **Research Associate**.

In the role of Protein Engineering / Synthetic Biology Research Associate, you will bring your expertise in protein design and expression, to participate in developing and testing new therapies to restore vision.
**Your responsibilities**
- Lead for development of new technologies in support of protein production, including transposon based stable cell expression capabilities and adherent cell lines for cell based assays
- Ability to independently perform tissue culture assignments including protein production by transfection with recombinant DNA, and generation of stable CHO/HEK cell lines
- Discuss scientific results and concepts internally in talks and progress reports
- Present results to the external community at conferences and in publications
- Maintain clear and accurate communication with supervisor and other team members
**Requirements**:
- PhD or equivalent experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Cell Biology or related discipline in Life Sciences
- Minimum 3 years-experience in, at least, two of the following fields: (1) directed evolution; (2) library generation and microplate readers; (3) molecular biology; and/or (4) microscopy
- Enthusiasm to establish and optimize new protocols and techniques at the bench
- Proficient with sterile laboratory maintenance, and familiar with BSL1-2 requirements
- Years of experience and track record in protein design
