Starr Insurance Companies has a requirement for a Commercial Property Underwriter to join our dynamic Zurich based team and working closely with counterparts across our European network and in the UK in the matrix structure.

The main focus of the role will be to write profitable Commercial Property business in line with the underwriting plan, using professional judgement to achieve the target premium revenue, expected return on capital and business growth whilst operating in line with the underwriting manual and general compliance/regulatory and Company procedures.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

- Implementing the Starr Companies underwriting strategy, portfolio and customer/channel propositions that optimize local and regional business opportunities while taking into account Starr Companies’ strategy and risk appetite
- Supporting the Underwriting community by underwriting this market segment and helping execute on their business strategy as well
- Authorising and/or making recommendations with respects to Onshore Energy and risk exposures while recognising local risk appetites and coordinating this into a final underwriting decision
- Monitor the marketplace to identify, assess and make recommendations regarding underwriting opportunities and/or threats presented by new and emerging risks within the market
- Identify and develop opportunities for cross-company co-operation and synergies within the wider Starr Companies group offerings
- Delivering effective oversight and underwriting risks in line with agreed policy and risk appetite, reporting and making recommendations to the management
- Developing broker and client relationships to optimise opportunities to lead business, arranging or attending regular meetings, presentations and events.

To be successful in this role you will need significant underwriting experience within the Commercial Property markets of Austria, France and Switzerland. Alongside an advanced knowledge of the this specific class of business you will also be extremely comfortable with market wordings, trends, insurance and reinsurance practices. You will also demonstrate proven relationship building, communication, influencing and negotiation skills. Strong language skills preferably French and/or German as well as English will be essential for performance within the role.
