LAN/WAN Network Engineer

Project: LAN/WAN EngineerStart Date: January 1, End Date: December 31, Location: Bern (main site), DübendorfWorkload: Full-time, On-site Requirement: Yes (remote work not possible) About the Project We are seeking experienced LAN/WAN Network Engineers to support the design, implementation, and operation of complex network infrastructures in a highly secure environment.This project operates within the Swiss Federal Administration, contributing to mission-critical defense and communication networks. It therefore requires exceptional technical expertise, discretion, and reliability. Key Responsibilities Design and implementation of LAN/WAN network architectures Preparation of high-level and detailed designs, test and integration concepts Building and execution of Proof of Concepts (PoC) in lab and integration environments Execution of FAT/SAT testing (Factory and Site Acceptance Tests) Evaluation and homologation of suitable network components Release and patch management across test, integration, and production environments Ensuring availability and performance optimization of IT network services Analysis, documentation, and resolution of incidents, events, and problems Leading task forces and working groups for problem resolution and service improvements Creation and maintenance of technical documentation, operating manuals, and specifications Administration of documentation systems such as IPAM (IP Address Management) and RMDB (Resource Management Database) Preparation, submission, and implementation of approved Change Requests Monitoring and configuration management of assigned IT network services Support of on-site installation and commissioning (performed by a third party) Execution of operational network service tasks to maintain system readiness Working during maintenance windows and participating in on-call (standby) duty Your Profile Several years of professional experience as a LAN/WAN Network Engineer in enterprise or governmental environments Strong knowledge of routing, switching, network security, and monitoring Experience in multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, etc.) Solid understanding of ITIL processes, change management, and incident management Analytical, structured, and proactive working style High sense of responsibility and strong teamwork skills Willingness to work in a classified and security-sensitive environment Required Certifications (one or more of the following) Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP): Routing & Switching, Security, Service Provider, or Wirelessor Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) in one of the above areasor Equivalent certification and demonstrable experience Prerequisites Language: German level B2 (minimum) Valid Swiss work permit and residence (mandatory) References: Minimum of 2 professional references (not older than 5 years) What We Offer Participation in a large-scale, security-relevant national infrastructure project Work with highly skilled engineering and architecture teams Stable, long-term assignment (12 months, renewable) Opportunity to contribute to the backbone and campus LAN evolution of national networks Application Please send your complete application (CV, certifications, references)
