Today, we are one of the world’s fastest growing insurance organizations, capable of writing in 128 countries on 6 continents.Role PurposeStarr Insurance Companies has a requirement for an Onshore Energy Underwriter to join our dynamic Zurich based team and working closely with counterparts across our European network and in the UK in the matrix structure.The main focus of the role will be to write profitable Onshore Energy business in line with the underwriting plan, using professional judgement to achieve the target premium revenue, expected return on capital and business growth whilst operating in line with the underwriting manual and general compliance/regulatory and Company procedures.Key responsibilitiesImplementing the Starr Companies underwriting strategy, portfolio and customer/channel propositions that optimize local and regional business opportunities while taking into account Starr Companies’ strategy and risk appetiteSupporting the Underwriting community by underwriting this market segment and helping execute on their business strategy as wellAuthorising and/or making recommendations with respects to Onshore Energy and risk exposures while recognising local risk appetites and coordinating this into a final underwriting decisionMonitor the marketplace to identify, assess and make recommendations regarding underwriting opportunities and/or threats presented by new and emerging risks within the marketIdentify and develop opportunities for cross-company co-operation and synergies within the wider Starr Companies group offeringsDelivering effective oversight and underwriting risks in line with agreed policy and risk appetite, reporting and making recommendations to the managementDeveloping broker and client relationships to optimise opportunities to lead business, arranging or attending regular meetings, presentations and eventsQualified Risk Engineering skills are optional, however knowledge of and interpretation abilities requiredTo be successful in this role you will need significant underwriting experience within the Onshore Energy area within the European Market which also includes the risk engineering segment. Alongside an advanced knowledge of this specific class of business, you will also be extremely comfortable with market wordings, trends, insurance and reinsurance practices. You will also demonstrate proven relationship building, communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
