Description The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Summary of Responsibilities : The Recruiter and Director of Bands will provide leadership and direction for the College’s Band programs, provide instrumental and music instruction, and is an integral member of the Enrollment Team to recruit prospective students for the Band programs. Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.) Director of Bands Provide leadership and direction for the College Band Program including Marching, Concert, and jazz bands. Instrumental and Music Instruction Teach instrumental methods courses in your field of experience on a rotation basis. Teach private lessons in your concentration area as needed. Ability to teach other music courses as needed and desired. Provide occasional supervision for student teaching. Recruitment responsibilities Achieve assigned enrollment goals by managing recruitment activity among prospective students for the College’s Band program. Recruit alongside the enrollment counselors, identifying students interested in any of the college’s band program, utilizing the enrollment CRM. Maintain consistent contact with prospective students/parents with interest in Band through calling, emailing, social networking, texting and personal notes inviting students to take necessary steps through the recruitment process, leading to enrollment. Develop and maintain relations with high school band directors within the region. Represent Geneva at various student recruitment events, on and off campus, as needed. Host campus visit events for prospective students that integrates visiting students with current students involved in the band (game-day visits, band festivals, etc.). Meet with prospective students and their parents during recruitment events and individual campus visits. Respond to student/parent questions in a timely manner. Actively participate in recruitment events such as open houses, scholarship events, and personal student visits. Miscellaneous Perform other duties as assigned. Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: (Place each of the following words into one of the four repetition levels below: walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and sitting. Able to lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems. Qualifications: Minimum: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education Experience: Experience with a marching band and concert band program, instrumental methods classes and Elementary and secondary methods instruction. Successful experience as an ensemble conductor. Experience as a classroom teacher (preferably at the high school or college level) Skill/Abilities: Knowledgeable in current trends in marching band drill design and instrumental methods materials and software. High level of professionalism and attention to detail. Positive attitude and strong communication (written and oral) skills. Strong public speaking ability. Relate easily to high school students and their families. Ability to utilize social networking sites in the recruitment process. Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work. Preferred: Education/Certification: Master’s Degree in Music Education or related field. Experience: Experience and Responsibility as director of a high school or college band program and experience teaching at the high school or college level. Skill/Abilities: The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent public relations skills and possess the ability to recruit for and maintain the college’s successful band programs and for the college academic programs as well.
