Job Description

Your responsibilities

The Detector Technologies (DT) group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, manufacture, and integration of the TBPS detector, a key component of the CMS Tracker upgrade at CERN. The TBPS will feature high-precision carbon-fibre support structures with embedded cooling pipework, serving hundreds of silicon detector modules while also supporting neighboring detectors.

You will play a critical role in mechanical design, integration, and assembly, working closely with senior engineers, designers, and technicians to ensure the successful development and construction of the detector. The role will involve collaboration with various CERN teams as well as external companies and institutes contributing to the CMS Tracker project.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare 3D models and technical drawings for the production of mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Develop detailed 3D integration models for cooling pipework, electrical cables, and optical fibers.
  • Support part procurement, quality control, detector assembly, and testing in CERN's workshops and assembly labs.
  • Assist with logistics and installation tasks, including occasional participation in equipment installation at the CMS experiment site and its underground facilities.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
