Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Core IP Engineer to join our team at Michael Page. As a Core IP Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our core IP network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Planning and Design: Develop and implement strategic plans for the expansion and optimization of the core IP network.
- Capacity Planning: Conduct capacity planning to ensure scalability and performance of the network infrastructure.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align network plans with business objectives.
- Network Architecture: Design network architecture and topologies that meet the organization's business and technical requirements in terms of performance, reliability, and security.
- Emerging Technologies: Evaluate emerging technologies of vendors and recommend solutions to enhance the network infrastructure.
Network Engineering:
- Network Configuration: Configure and deploy core IP network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls (particularly with CGNAT and IPSec functions), and other security devices.
- Network Upgrades: Perform network upgrades and optimizations to support evolving business needs and enhance network security.
- Security Integration: Integrate security solutions into the core network infrastructure to protect against cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide technical expertise to resolve problems.
- Quality Standards: Ensure adherence to quality standards and compliance with regulatory requirements like lawful interception or network security.
Network Operations:
- Network Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the core IP network, including upgrades, integration of new network elements, monitoring, maintenance, and incident response.
- Performance Monitoring: Develop and implement procedures for network performance monitoring and optimization.
- On-Call Support: Contribute to the on-call team for the Core IP domain, on a weekly rotation with the team. Support is 24/7/365.
- Network Security: Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, DDOS protection systems, and secure access controls.
Security Management:
- Security Policies: Develop and enforce network security policies, standards, and best practices.
- Security Assessments: Conduct regular security assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the client's security team to ensure comprehensive protection against threats and to respond to security incidents.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in IP networks with hands-on expertise and a focus on network security.
- Certifications: Industry certifications such as CCNP Security, CISSP, CISM, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Skills: Proven experience in network planning, design, and operations. Strong understanding of IP networking principles, protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS), and services. Proficiency in network security technologies and practices, including firewalls, VPNs, CGNAT, and encryption. Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., Wireshark, Librenms, Grafana, Telegraph, Nagios). Familiarity with automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.
- Personal Qualities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Very good oral and written communication in English.
