We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Engineer in Economics and Finance to join our team at the University of St. Gallen. As a key member of our research team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our large dataset, designing and maintaining the server-side of our web application, and collaborating with our front-end developers.
Key Responsibilities- Data Collection and Organization: You will be responsible for collecting and organizing data from various sources, including Compustat, to enhance the quality of our datasets. This involves understanding data structures, selecting relevant data, ensuring proper formatting and consistency, and detecting and correcting inaccuracies or errors.
- Data Analysis and Modelling: You will apply statistical and mathematical techniques to explore data, identify patterns and trends, and develop models to support our research.
- Code Development and Testing: You will leverage programming languages such as Python, SQL, and JavaScript to write efficient code that processes and transforms large datasets.
- Data Visualization: You will propose and create visualizations, charts, and reports that communicate complex data analysis results to non-technical stakeholders in a concise manner.
- Server-Side Logic and Infrastructure Management: You will create the code and logic that run on the server, handle requests from the client-side of our application, and ensure the server is available, scalable, and secure.
- Collaboration and Communication: You will work closely with our front-end developers and other technical roles to provide a seamless and engaging user experience.
- Advanced Knowledge: You should possess an advanced knowledge of R, web development in Python (ideally Django), and a good working knowledge of SQL.
- Experience: You should have experience working with financial and accounting data, and be familiar with cloud computing, APIs, and other DevOps tools (Git, Docker, AWS, Unix shell).
- Personal Qualities: You should be a reliable self-starter with a strong motivation to gain valuable experience in the technical development of a leading-edge economics application.
