Basel, Basel-Stadt, Schweiz The Biozentrum, University of Basel Vollzeit

Company Overview

">The Biozentrum, University of Basel, a renowned institution for life sciences, is seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to contribute to our team. Our research focuses on understanding the complex interactions between soil microorganisms and their environment. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing our knowledge of carbon cycling in soils and its implications for the Earth's ecosystem.

Job Description

">In this position, you will work closely with our team to develop and apply novel tools for quantifying changes in soil microbial metabolism under drought conditions. You will design and conduct laboratory experiments using compound-specific hydrogen isotope measurements of phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) as a proxy for net soil microbial metabolism. Your expertise will be crucial in integrating isotopic data with metabolomic, metatranscriptomic, and metagenomic analyses to gain insights into the central carbon metabolism of soil microbial communities.

Required Skills and Qualifications

">To be successful in this role, you should have a doctoral degree in organic geochemistry, soil biogeochemistry, microbial ecology, microbiology, or a related field. Significant experience with compound-specific stable isotopes or multi-omic datasets is essential. Additionally, you should possess excellent communication skills, including fluency in English, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Benefits

">We offer a competitive salary of approximately CHF 65,000 per year, commensurate with your qualifications and experience. Furthermore, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and the opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers in the field. If you are passionate about advancing our understanding of soil microorganisms and their impact on the environment, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

Others

">This position is available immediately, and we look forward to receiving your application. Please submit your CV, cover letter, and contact information for two professional references by email to info@biozentrum.unibas.ch.
