The Consular Services Unit at U.S. Embassy Bern delivers a wide range of services to the U.S. citizen community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for managing challenging and time-sensitive cases that require research, analysis, and sensitivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welfare Checks: Assist with searches for missing persons, children's issues, parental child abduction, and other emergency situations.
  • Medical Assistance: Arrange hospital visits, contact family and friends, and assist with payment and insurance issues.
  • Financial Assistance/Repatriations: Help with contact, repatriation loans, travel and housing arrangements, and other financial assistance.
  • Deaths: Issue consular reports of death, facilitate the return of remains, and assist with funeral arrangements.
  • Arrests: Arrange and conduct prison visits, ensure fair treatment, and assist with deportations.
  • Voting Assistance: Provide assistance with absentee voting in U.S. federal and local elections.
  • Notary Services: Prepare documents for notarization and answer public inquiries.
  • Event Planning and Outreach: Plan and attend outreach events, contact building maintenance, and ensure a smooth event experience.

The ideal candidate will have a secondary education in administration or a related field, at least three years of progressively responsible experience in public contact and government administration, social work, or consular services. Fluency in English and German, with good working knowledge of French or Italian, is also required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.
