Job Overview

The Institute of Microbiology is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our research group, you will be responsible for supporting research projects by applying advanced biostatistics and modelling methods for the analysis, integration, and visualization of omics data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis: Collaborate with PhD students and postdocs to design and implement data analysis pipelines for omics data, including genomics, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
  • Data Management: Develop and maintain infrastructure for data storage, submission to relevant repositories, and collaboration with IT staff to ensure seamless data management.
  • Training and Development: Organize and deliver training sessions for IMB members on relevant areas of bioinformatics and computational biology, including workshops and individual sessions.
  • Tool Development: Develop and implement tools and methods for biological data analysis, with a focus on omics data.

Requirements

  • Education: PhD (or MSc) in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science, computational biology, or a related field.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills; demonstrated experience in modelling and analysis of omics data; solid understanding of biological/statistical data analysis methods; proficient programming skills (e.g., Python, R, UNIX/bash scripting, use of HPC systems).
  • Desirable Qualifications: Expertise in statistical approaches to integrate multi-omics data; background in microbial population/comparative genomics, ecology, and evolution, physiology, and metabolism.
